By 2024, the Pontchaillou site is set to become the University Hospital Centre’s single site, as well as a true university hospital campus. The construction of the CCI and its technical platform will be a key element of this project. The stake is to make this center suitable for the other future would-be programmes. The architectural identity of the CCI is strong, neat and easily distinguishable throughout the site. Its massing strongly stands out, while its suspended gallery, enhanced by a Carlos Cruz-Diez kinetic artwork, makes the building impossible to miss. The project is shaped around its main entrance, strategically located on the university hospital forecourt, and by its hollow-carved structure, via an internal pathway stretching from east to west, as defined in the master plan. To ensure the connection between the existing and the upcoming Pontchaillou site’s buildings, the flows’ separation is optimised by allowing the lying down patients to access the lower floor, keeping the forecourt cleared, while enabling a flawless connection, away from the logistics flows. The access to the Esplanade is fluent and smooth, and any upcoming facilities would easily fit in. The core of the project, is the medical and nursing forum, providing the professionals with a relaxation area and other near-at-hand services.
