Giuseppina Scavuzzo is an architect and lecturer in the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Trieste, Italy. A specialist in the history of psychiatric architecture, she looks back at the work carried out by psychiatrist Franco Basaglia at the hospitals in Gorizia and Trieste, where he served as director, and which inspired the law on the deinstitutionalisation of psychiatry in Italy, named after him.
