The Nogente Market in Nogent-sur-Marne

A market is a public facility that brings people together, while boosting the urban renewal of the city centre. Reminding of the Halle Baltard, which has become a symbol of the town of Nogent-sur-Marne, the Nogente Market restyles its metal architecture, its brick-clad shell as well as its colours. Its massing makes it easy to identify, the ribs of its canopy fit the urban surroundings and its banks match with its roofs ‘aliasing.

The market results into a continuous strip, as a real shopping stream, which easily suits the slope of the plot, encouraging strolling and contemplation. It turns shopping into a real experience, a pleasure, discovering the stalls looping from the lower southern floor, up to the mezzanine. This walk-in living market is also a chronotropic space, apt to different activities and audiences depending on the season: half-sized market (over the week), full-sized market (over the weekends), themed workshops (in the afternoons), evening exhibitions and events on the rooftop or on the forecourt during the summer.

Its metal structure is made, by 90%, of recycled steel, and its plain, bioclimatic design ensures its principles in terms of strength and sustainability: natural airflow, shady façades, sustainable rainwater treatment and plant-filled areas on the open ground.
