Henri Mondor University Hospital Centre Laboratories in Créteil

The biology and pathology university hospital site at the Henri-Mondor University Hospitals (AP-HP) is designed to boost expertise, innovation, and research, based on AI and sequencing. Its innovation intent, can also be measured at its organisational level, specifically as regards to the staff organisation and workspaces. The current setting of the site, which is now embedded in the Henri Mondor Hospital Centre, prevents its easy recognition and workflows. The project aims to restore the identity and the independence to this essential hospital activity.  The site will be set in a proper location, easily identifiable by all users. Its adjusted and evolving spaces, enhance its staff’s comfort. Its outdoor spaces allow a green breathing area to the very mineral Mondor Hospital’s site.

The volume of the project reflects the combination of programmatic constraints: a technical and logistical plinth integrated into the relief to limit nuisance, hosting the technical rooms, changing rooms, logistics rooms and loading areas. Right above, a laboratory platform lays on ES1 floor and ground floor of the new building and in the restored part. Above this, a 2-storey “tertiary village”, set on a green roof, and a rooftop dedicated to shared spaces facing the sky and the distant landscape.

The new laboratory platform is conceived as a free-standing platform. It stretches in a single block to guarantee great flexibility of use and to ease the installation of automated conveyors. Set back on the roof of the laboratory platform, the “tertiary village” features a garden terrace planted on three of its main façades. It is built over three levels. A facing east/west central atrium, hosting an open staircase, provides a visual and functional connection between the floors.
