Shopping mall, Gassin

An extension to restore identity and performance.

The Géant Casino shopping mall in Gassin, in the Var Department, is ideally located in one of Europe’s most emblematic tourist areas. Due to its proximity to Port Grimaud and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the site is also one of the most important property developments at the entrance to the legendary town of Saint-Tropez. The extension of the project ensures the reset of the site via its architecture, renewing its shopping identity while making it suitable to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez’s image.

The creation of a two-storey silo car park will free up the surrounding area, bringing about a spacious forecourt. Inspired by classic Provençal architecture, a monumental 10-metre-high white concrete arcade turns the project into a landmark, connecting the various volumes of its new design. With a length of 120 metres, this arcade gives shelter to the two main entrances on the north-west façade, protecting them against sun and rain. Its simple construction, made of prefabricated units, guarantees its high-quality easy-to-build features.

The silo car park, clad of wooden slats and with its gabion walls of climbing greenery, perfectly fits into the landscape. The whole site is surrounded by the vegetation, from the green belt to the plant-filled forecourt, and even under the arcades where gardens spice up the café and restaurant terraces.
