New Hospital of Caen, France, Caen

A campus in a park

Like a campus installed in a park, the New Hospital of Caen affirms its urban and landscape character, and fertilizes a territory today denied. Its buildings, complementary and supportive, are readable and accessible. By their richness and their variety declined in a shared architectural vocabulary, they form a set on a human scale. Outdoor spaces, streets, plazas and parked garages reinforce the hospital’s unity, accessibility and quality of life. The Hospital Campus is a “tool-building” adapted to the medical project, rationalized, and perennial, where each of the activities of the Hospital is installed in the most efficient typology, functionally and economically, with dedicated and dimensioned constructive and technical systems. Each building having its vocation, the autonomy of the frames allows the efficiency of the plans. The dense network intensifies the connections and the efficiency of flows. By the correctness of its organization and its flexibility, the Campus accompanies the life of the Hospital, allowing its scalability and extensibility. Its landscaped ambiances, the diversity of its entities, the sobriety of architectural treatments dominated by natural and sustainable materials, affirm at the same time the nobility, durability and the plural and humanistic character of the New Hospital of Caen.
