In an R&D laboratory, the movement generated by the duality of office/laboratory spaces can be a source of interaction. The E50 building brings together laboratory spaces on the first floor and office spaces on level 1, concentrating flows between these 2 areas through a central space that hosts collaborative and convivial interactions in a diversity of premises.
Bringing the 4 laboratories together on the first floor is in line with the strategy of pooling resources and the concern for equity in access and travel distances. All laboratories have direct access to the interaction area and shared functions.
Office spaces have been grouped together on level 1, to limit the length of journeys from the laboratory and enable easy use of the staircase. Six open spaces are proposed, to federate proximity within the teams in their «base camps».
The central interaction space is conceived as a large «collaborative» hall crossing the project from one end to the other. The various spaces that make it up open directly onto the planted patios that extend them. Double-height spaces and open staircases create a strong visual link between the 2 levels, allowing the different spaces to take on different statuses.
