Centre Bretagne General Hospital, Pontivy, France

Set in a copse on the Kerio site at Noyal-Pontivy, the new medical centre with its horizontal design blends harmoniously with the rolling countryside.  Its architecture is segmented, providing many and varied views of the landscape; a central road serves the building, distributes services and provides a link with the planted internal patios with their colourful and soothing ambiance. This is the first hospital receiving a subsidy from Europe’s “Heating Fund” (Fonds Chaleur) for its wood-fired heating plant that covers 80% of its heating needs and sources its requirements from local industries.
